Description
This 100% copper lantern was handmade by fellow reenactor coppersmith Douglas Patraw in 2006 who resides in Connecticut. It is large and has a lovely patina and is in beautiful condition considering it was regularly used at reenactments all over New England for many years.See photos for measurements and beautiful detail.
The lantern has one candle cup (candle is included in sale) and a large hinged door panel to make access easy. Round copper loop on top make it easy to hang just about anywhere and it works wonderful hanging from a ridge pole under a dining fly, but it also has a flat bottom and can be set on a table, mantel, etc. just as easily.
The hexagonal design allows light to be reflected in all directions.
It is a beautifully handcrafted work of art and stamped on the bottom by the maker's initials DJP 06.
I inherited this lovely piece from a dear friend reenactor who has passed and it pains me to part with it, but we are retiring to live on an RV and I do not have the room for it and would worry the josseling around could break the glass panels at some point. It deserves to be in a home that has colonial or country primitive decor or even better yet---- back doing reenactments again.
