Description
For sale is a reproduction of the 2-piece latch that held the wooden box closed for the WWII German Enigma machine. The larger piece was installed in the drop-down wooden door, and the small piece was installed in the lid. When closed, the operator inserted a finger into the dimple and pried the flat piece open, releasing a small detent that was inserted in the small piece. When installed correctly the small cut in the upper piece faced to the viewer's right. The 2-piece latch is composed of steel, and has been coated with zinc plating to prevent rust. The 2-piece latch requires six (6) screws: four in the large piece and two in the small piece, but they are not provided, since the buyer will decide whether or not to use US SAE/inch or Metric/mm screws. This 2-piece latch was used in the Enigma machine, the Enigma Uhr box, the 10-line Klappenschrank switchboard, and many other wooden Wehrmacht boxes. Each 2-piece latch weighs approximately 1-1/2 ounces, but since the US Postal System rounds up instead of down, so the item is listed as 2 ounces. The package for international shipment is bigger than the latch to allow for the attachment of customs forms. Photos courtesy Toadjumper-Militaria.Track Page Views With
